It's easy for anyone once they hit that magic number of 50 to start thinking they are over the hill and everything is just downhill from there. The worst thing about thinking this way is that you are letting yourself down, especially if you have the mind set that you can't stay young and everything is just going to get worse as you start getting into the later years of your life. But, have faith, never before has than been so wrong to think that way. Today there are far more things you can do that will keep your life filled with fun, keep it worthwhile and interesting as well as fulfilling.
Don't just be concerned with your financial assets, sure they are important but there are other assets in your life that are just as important if not more important than money. Your physical, your mental and your spiritual assets are all vitally important things along with your different abilities and things you are capable of doing. Let's not forget your family members, dear friends, even the community in which you live in are all assets in your life. All of these things make you who you are, complete you as a person.
You should sit down and think about all of these assets in your life. You should figure out what condition each of them are in at this stage of your life. Figure out what you can improve upon and which ones do not have any direction or support coming from you. Then accept the condition of those assets and don't sit there wasting time over things that simply aren't there. Never sit and ponder on the what ifs in life.
Follow the old saying “Use it or lose it.” And then try and apply that saying to you and the health of your body. Try and exercise every part of your body including your mind on a regular basis. But be realistic, only do the physical activity that your body is able to handle, don't force yourself to do things that are simply way beyond your capabilities, this will only lead to failure.
Make sure to use your brain in a variety of different fun and new ways. When you continue to learn you are going to continue to stimulate your mind and this will help your mind to stay young a lot longer than if you just let it go without that mental nourishment that your brain thrives for.
Make your spirit happy. Do things that are good for the “soul”. Go to church, go back to church if you've been gone for a while, find support and fellowship with others. You can also go out and enjoy nature. Nature has a sure fire way of making us feel better about yourself and how you look at the world around you. Both nature and church can be “food for the soul”. So take advantage of it, both are free of charge.
Analyze the relationships that you have and what condition they might be in. Do you share both your tears and your laughing with these people. Are your relationships with your family good and loving and if not, is there something you can do to fix that? Make sure to be honest with yourself and open with yourself when you are thinking about the different relationships in your life. Whatever you do, don't go around with a chip on your should with regards to someone in your life. Reduce this baggage from your life by trying to work it out, offer forgiveness, ask for forgiveness. There is no time like the present for this.
Don't be afraid to omit those from your life that you feel simply do not care or that they are bringing you down because of their attitudes and the lifestyles they are living. If a person you associate does not make you feel good then where is the sense in being around them. You need to be in relationships that compliment one another not deliver harsh and destructive impacts on you and your life.
Remember you are not a single individual adrift on an endless sea alone, you are part of a community, part of a country, part of a huge world. Get involved, do something. Educate yourself on what is happening around you from your own personal community to the other side of the globe. Think about volunteering, be an informed voter, do whatever you can to feel like you are worth something to this world. Most importantly get rid of all the angry feelings you might have in your life. Throw it out with the neighborhood trash.
