Aging Gracefully - Simple Ways to Stay Fit and Young as You Get Older


Everyone has an excuse why they don't exercise. It doesn't matter whether you are a younger person or someone that is beginning to experience the signs of aging. If you are the average person you know this to be more fact than fiction. If you want to try and help your body and your mind stay young for a little bit longer then you might want to try some of the things listed below to help you achieve that particular goal.

Improving your balance as well as your strength can be important in helping you stay young longer and feel young longer. You can do this by doing some very easy low body exercises. Some of those are raising your calves by using the balls of your feet and standing on them as high as you physically can. Another one would be the extensions of your legs to the side. You do this by raising one leg to the side as far and high as you can and repeat about eight or ten times. You can also do some back leg extensions as well. Make sure to grab onto a chair if you need extra support when doing any of these exercises.

You can also try and increase the density of your bones. Any kind of strength training can reduce the mass your bones begin to lose with aging. If you simply stand on one leg you will be using the weight of your body to help to contract your leg muscles which in turn will actually stimulate your bones. You can also do lunges a long with squats that will help to strengthen the legs and help your bone mass to increase.

Even when you are aging you can still make your body increase the mass of it's muscles. There are 650 muscles that will let you do whatever you have to do with your body and we should try and do exercises that are going to keep them strong so that you can counteract the five to seven pounds of actual muscle we generally lose every ten years once we reach the age of 50.

You also need to be able to increase your ability to be flexibility. Aging helps to contribute to muscles becoming tight because the tissue that is around your joints begin to get thick. So if you stretch your muscles with exercise you are going to eventually increase your range of motion. You posture is also important so make sure that you maintain a good posture at all times. Exercises that can help stretch your muscles are yoga, Pilates, getting in a pool and swim as well as dancing.

Over and over again we are told how bad stress is on us. That's because it is. So by doing some sort of exercise you are going to be releasing the dopamine and serotonin that your body and these hormones make you feel better. It also will bring more oxygen into your blood and will actually energize you. Exercising in the end will give you more energy, help you to be more alert and it even helps stimulate the memory.

No matter what kind of exercise that you decide to take up always make sure that you check with your doctor and start off slow and then you can increase any repetitions that there might be.
